Koetshuis Sauvignon Blanc 2010…. It’s here

Koetshuis Sauvignon Blanc 2010

‘Feel it, it is here,’ may have been the battle cry for local football fans. Now, ‘taste it, it is here’ is the good news we have in store for fans of De Grendel Koetshuis, our premier Sauvignon Blanc.

A vintage to remember:
Looking back on the 2010 vintage, the wine industry will remember the gale force winds of October 2009 during the grapes’ flowering season. This led to substantially smaller crops for many wine farms. Nature was much kinder on us, as we missed most of the merciless winds. We also experienced a higher yield than in the past.

Could we repeat the success of the magnificent 2009 vintage – hailed by many as the best of the decade? “Once we started tasting the young wines in the tanks, our optimism rose with every sip”, muse our cellar master Charles Hopkins and winemaker Elzette Du Preez. “Taste the Koetshuis Sauvignon Blanc 2010 for yourself and experience why it surpasses even our wildest expectations.”

Taking care:
Charles explains that the Koetshuis Sauvignon Blanc grapes are handled differently in the vineyards and in the cellar to ensure a bigger and a bolder wine.  It is picked riper, receives longer skin contact, longer cold settling as well as extended lees contact after fermentation with batonage on more frequent intervals.

A style of its own:
Elzette points at that the Koetshuis Sauvignon Blanc differs stylistically from our De Grendel Sauvignon Blanc as the flavour spectrum leans more towards the green side, yet with ripe flavours of capsicum, asparagus and gooseberries.  Supported by a firm acidity it is a full bodied white wine with a strong and long finish. With its good aging potential you can put it away for 3 years – if you can risk the temptation and wait.

What’s great about De Grendel’s two Sauvignon Blanc range – whether you prefer the green style or something more tropical – there’s a choice tailored to your taste and pocket.
• To celebrate the beauty within of this special wine, we also changed the Koetshuis label ever so slightly.

On your plate:
Looking at wine trends, there are good reason why Sauvignon Blanc is the world’s most popular white. It’s a wine to enjoy on its own, and better still – to match with sunshine, summer, seafood and friends. Our full bodied Koetshuis Sauvignon Blanc 2010 can even take on wine’s so-called arch-nemesis – asparagus – with gusto: match with roasted asparagus served alongside pan-fried Kingklip and creamy tagliatelle. It’s also one of the few whites that can pull off a partnership with sushi.
